What To Expect
You Can Exhale Here
If you have never been to a chiropractor before, bringing your baby or child to their first appointment can feel like a big step. You might have questions about what will happen, whether your baby will be comfortable, or whether chiropractic care is even right for your family.
And if you are the one who is pregnant, newly postpartum, or simply trying to keep up with everyone else's needs, you may be used to putting yourself last.
We want your experience to be different.
At Chiros for Mamas + Minis in Sherwood Park, our goal is for you and your family to feel comfortable, informed, listened to, and respected. You do not need to know anything about chiropractic before you come in. You do not need to arrive with a perfectly behaved baby. You do not need to have the right words to explain what is going on.
We will meet you where you are.
Before Your First Visit
When you book your first appointment, you will receive an intake form by email. This gives us some background about your health, your concerns, your goals, and anything that might help us make your appointment more comfortable.
You can share as much or as little as you would like.
If you are bringing your baby, there is no need to worry about whether they will be hungry, tired, fussy, or needing to be held. Babies are allowed to be babies here.
Feed them. Change them. Pick them up. Take a break. Walk around. We will work with your baby rather than expecting your baby to work around us.
And if you are the one seeking care, we want to hear about you, too.
Your First Visit
Your first appointment is not about rushing you onto a treatment table.
It starts with a conversation.
We will talk about what brought you in, what you have noticed, what concerns you, and what you hope to get out of care. For parents, that might mean talking about your baby's feeding, head position, tummy time, body tension, movement, or development. It might also mean talking about your own pregnancy, pelvic pain, back pain, postpartum recovery, feeding, carrying, sleep, or simply how your body has been feeling.
We listen to the whole story.
We will then complete an individualized assessment and explain what we are seeing in clear, everyday language. We will talk through our recommendations and answer your questions before deciding together what care makes sense.
In many cases, treatment can begin at the first appointment. If we feel additional assessment or imaging is needed first, we will explain why.
You are never expected to simply trust us because we are the professionals. We want you to understand your care, ask questions, and feel comfortable with the decisions being made.
What Happens During Infant + Pediatric Visits?
This is one of the questions we hear most often, especially from parents who have never experienced chiropractic care themselves.
Infant and pediatric appointments are gentle, individualized, and adapted to the child in front of us.
We take time to observe how your baby moves, how they hold their head and body, and how they respond to different positions and interactions. Depending on your child's needs, we may look at things such as head and neck movement, body tension, symmetry, tummy time, motor development, feeding-related function, and oral movement.
We use gentle techniques appropriate for infants and children. There is no expectation that your baby will lie perfectly still while we work.
If your baby needs you, you are part of the appointment.
You can hold them, comfort them, feed them, talk to them, or help us find a position where they feel safe.
Our goal is not to force a baby through an appointment. Our goal is to build trust and provide care in a way that respects their cues.
If You Are a Mama, We See You Too
Sometimes the person who books the appointment for the baby is the person who needs care just as much.
Pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, feeding, carrying, lifting, interrupted sleep, and constantly being needed can ask a lot of your body.
You deserve to be listened to without having your concerns dismissed as simply "part of motherhood."
Whether you are dealing with pelvic girdle pain, SPD, back or hip pain, sciatica, diastasis recti, rib discomfort, tailbone pain, wrist or hand pain, or simply feeling like your body does not feel the way it used to, we want to understand what you are experiencing.
You do not have to prove that your pain is bad enough to deserve care.
You do not have to wait until you are completely overwhelmed.
And you do not have to choose between taking care of your baby and taking care of yourself.
You are allowed to be cared for, too.
Follow-Up Visits
Every follow-up appointment starts with a check-in.
How are you feeling? What has changed? What is feeling better? What is still bothering you? What do you need today?
Your care may include different techniques depending on your needs, including:
Gentle chiropractic adjustments
Activator
Drop-table techniques
SOT blocking
Graston
Myofascial cupping
Craniosacral therapy
Movement and mobility strategies
Rehabilitation exercises
Education and home-care recommendations
We do not follow a predetermined treatment protocol simply because that is what was done at your last appointment.
Your care can change because your body changes.
Your Comfort and Consent Come First
You are always allowed to ask questions.
You are allowed to say no.
You are allowed to change your mind.
You are allowed to pause, change positions, ask for a different technique, or stop treatment completely.
We will explain what we are doing before we do it and check in throughout your appointment.
This applies to adults, children, and babies.
For babies and young children, we pay attention to their cues and work with parents to create an environment where they feel safe and supported.
A Clinic Where Real Life Is Welcome
We know appointments do not always happen in quiet, picture-perfect conditions.
Your toddler might have a meltdown.
Your baby might need to nurse three times.
You might arrive exhausted.
You might need to bring all your kids with you.
You might need extra time getting onto the table.
You might not know exactly how to describe what you are feeling.
That's okay.
Our clinic is designed to make room for real families and real bodies. We have larger treatment tables, adjustable supports, and space to move, feed, comfort, or take a moment when you need it.
Bring your baby. Bring your partner. Bring your support person. Bring the snack bag.
You do not have to make yourself smaller, quieter, or more convenient to receive care here.
Two Chiropractors, One Shared Approach
Chiros for Mamas + Minis brings together Dr. Joanna and Dr. Caylee, two Webster Certified chiropractors with advanced training in pregnancy and pediatric care.
Our shared-care model means you can see either chiropractor based on your preferences and schedule. We communicate and collaborate about your care so you can have flexibility without feeling like you have to start from the beginning every time.
Whether you are looking for pregnancy chiropractic care, postpartum chiropractic care, infant chiropractic care, pediatric chiropractic care, or family chiropractic care in Sherwood Park and the Edmonton area, you can expect the same foundation:
You will be listened to.
You will have choices.
Your body will be respected.
Your baby will be treated with care.
And you will never have to navigate your care alone.
Ready to Meet Us?
If you have questions before booking, that is completely okay.
You do not need to know whether chiropractic care is right for you or your baby before you reach out. That's part of what your first visit is for.
We are here to listen, answer your questions, and help you figure out the next step.
